Research abstract

In Phase I of this SBIR effort, Lakota created a general model for a component-based display architecture and a prototype of this general model in the form of a set of USW displays executing within the framework. In Phase II, Lakota proposes to follow through with the groundwork laid down in Phase I by developing the Enterprise Display Infrastructure (EDI) a ‘pluggable’ display infrastructure that will provide the ability to rapidly insert new functionality into existing displays, improve operator efficiency and tactical information exchange, and simplify training by providing similar operator display look and feel across platforms for similar operations. EDI will use ontologies to provide a generic method for information exchange without modifying existing display interfaces. The use of ontologies also facilitates operator drill-down from one tactical display window to another, to enhance data analysis. EDI will provide a Software Development Kit (SDK) with which developers will be able to efficiently insert newly developed functionality into legacy display components. Using the EDI SDK, customers can integrate various proprietary and Government Purpose Rights (GPR) display products into a common look and feel tactical display system while allowing data to be interchanged between display components.
