Research abstract

Under this SBIR program, Kernco and its primary subcontractor, Teledyne Benthos, propose to further the development of the integrated acoustic modem/high-performance atomic clock demonstrated under the Phase I effort. Specifically, Kernco will modify its Low-Power Core Clock (LPCC) Coherent Population Trapping (CPT) passive rubidium clock to reduce the DC Power consumption and improve the interface with an advanced fourth generation acoustic modem developed Teledyne Benthos. The modified clock will be integrated into with the acoustic modem to complete the Time Synchronized Underwater Ranging (TSUR) sytem. This system, which allows accurate synchronization between two or more underwater systems using acoustic communications, will be subjected to underwater tests and demonstrations.
