Research abstract

This proposal describes a complete vehicle corrosion simulation and modeling tool called ACES (Accelerated Corrosion Expert Simulator) that has a high degree of correlation to actual accelerated corrosion test. The system will utilize existing 3D Vulnerability models which will be expanded. Geometric detail will be added associated with observed corrosion hot-spots from prior correlations with accelerated and other corrosion testing and observations. Tool will include a robust Knowledge Acquisition Facility that incorporates learning algorithms for semi-automatic updating of the models as new experimental or field data is obtained showing the models to be inadequate in some areas. The ACES system will include models for various coating application and their breakdown, poultice entrapment areas and the mechanism for corrosion in crevices, etc. )
