Research abstract

Most current Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems exist in stovepipe environments that do not lend themselves to evolving network centric paradigms. This creates barriers to information sharing, hinders the improvement of situational awareness, and denies progress towards better speed and quality of decisions. Lack of a rapid business process modeling capability impedes the data coordination needed to better exploit sequential and parallel processes at the system level. The absence of reconfigurable systems and data models prevents the decoupling of complex processes into simpler problems to solve. Today, system reconfiguration would require modifying the systems and writing costly integration software. The time required to modify the system is usually measured in years or months at best. What is needed is a Business Process Transformation Tool for Rapid Reconfiguration of Navy Systems which will support FORCEnet Engagement Pack (FNEP) creation and dynamic data and service modifications on the fly given changing mission requirements. The tool set will perform rapid reconfiguration of Navy systems across the distributed enterprise with regard to mission objectives, while using business process models in a service oriented paradigm.
