Research abstract

Wilson Composite Technologies (WCT) and its team members, including San Diego Composites, Stratton Composite Solutions, Composite Advantage and 2 Phase Technologies, propose to design and demonstrate an integrated composite structure containing a high pressure tank and the supporting structure for other components of the assembly suitable for a Divert and Attitude Control System (DACS). Included within this program is the further development of the dry filament winding/resin transfer molding fabrication methodology that was successfully demonstrated in the recently completed Phase 1 SBIR. The proposed engineering and manufacturing program contains twelve tasks which span a period of eighteen months. One of the first tasks within this program is the formulation of a document that will specify geometrical, structural and functional requirements for the proposed integrated structure. These will be used during the detailed design and structural analysis tasks to create detailed drawings of the structural components and assembly. Fabrication tooling will be designed, developed and fabricated that enables production of a full scale structure. This structure will then be subjected to pressurization and simulated flight loads to verify structural performance. Numerous technical reviews will be held and progress reports published throughout the program.
