Research abstract
The operational objective of this project is better situational awareness for blue forces engaged in MOUT. In Phase I of this SBIR effort, the Q-Track Corporation and its subcontractor, SAIC, established the feasibility of using Near Field Electromagnetic Ranging (NFER) to track soldiers in GPS-denied locations. In Phase II, the Q-Track team will optimize the design of the transmitters, receivers, and system software used in Phase I. The Team will test the optimized NFER system at a MOUT facility to obtain soldier feedback. Northrop Grumman will then integrated the NFER system into an existing Personal Navigation System (PNS) previously developed by Northrop Grumman. The PNS will fuse NFER data with the three tracking technologies that the pre-existing PNS already uses. The technical objective for NFER-supplemented Northrop Grumman PNS is to enable soldier tracking anywhere (e.g., urban canyons, sewers, outdoors, indoors) with an accuracy of 2.38 meters with 95% confidence.
