Research abstract

The primary objective of this project is to study the feasibility of a number of innovative energy harvesting power sources for small, remote communications buoys. These novel concepts are for energy harvesting devices which can offer open-ended service life and distinct advantages in reliability, efficiency, and compactness over competing technologies. The present designs are highly scalable and modular, making them suited to a wide variety of applications with electrical power demands and ambient motion of low and varying frequency. The simplicity of the developed design concepts as well as the multitude of configurations into which the basic principle may be applied augment the applicability of the present devices.
