Research abstract

Aerius photonics is proposing a cryogenic compatible scene projector designed for the test and evaluation of multi-spectral missile interceptor systems. This technology is based on the high apparent temperature MWIR scene projector concept developed by Aerius for the MDA and currently being constructed for KHILS facility. The proposed scene projector, called the Cryogenic Scalable Infrared Projection System (Cryo-SIPS) is a multi-spectral high apparent temperature scene projector. The projector utilizes fiber-optic image array transmission suitable for use in cryogenic space chambers. The Cyro-SIPS is differentiated from other fiber optics approaches in that it is able to maintain diffraction limited projection throughout the optics train to minimize scattered light, background noise, cross-talk, and deliver high radiance levels to the sensor under test. In Phase I Aerius will conduct feasibility studies to adapt the MWIR SIPS design concept into a projector approach suitable for use at cryogenic temperatures across a broad band of wavelengths. Aerius will then demonstrate the controlled projection of a 64 pixel image array. In Phase II Aerius will deliver a 512x512 solution for cryogenic testing of missile interceptor systems.
