Research abstract
During the initial stages of Phase I of the Air Force program, Konarka Technologies will formulate solutions for all of the layers that comprise a single junction cell, and we will sequentially coat these layers on top of one another using the roll-to-roll, process development coating machine. The purpose of these experiments is to prevent de-wetting and large scale intermixing of the layers during coating. In addition, the area occupied by the active layer will be increased and that of the in-active, interconnect and edge seal area will be decreased. In the final stage of the program, all of these results and information will be used to produce modules comprising multi-junction cells. The efficiency of these modules is expected to be at least 6%.
