Research abstract

Space Micro, Inc. is proposing a reconfigurable HAIPE encryption system, with speeds capable of greater than 10 Gbps, meeting all of the radiation requirements expected in the TSAT (and similar) satellite applications. This innovative solution combines Space Micro’s reconfigurable FPGA radiation hardened (RH) technology with ViaSat, Inc.’s reconfigurable HAIPE compliant encryption/decryption system, making architectural modifications necessary to merge the 2 technologies. The RH FPGA technology and HAIPE crypto system are 2 innovations that already have been demonstrated and tested; these 2 elements will be combined for yielding the innovative result that will meet all of the TSAT requirements. Simply restated, these 2 independent innovations have been developed independently, they will be combined for this application. Our candidate Radiation Hard Reprogrammable Internet Protocol Encryptor (or RH-IPE) will include the following innovations: · ViaSat’s innovative PSIAM-II HAIPE compliant, reconfigurable encryptor · Space Micro’s innovative Proton300k radiation hardened, FPGA based, digital signal processing board, including: o Time-Triple Modular Redundancy SEU hardening technology for FPGAs and DSPs o Hardened Core SEFI hardening technology for FPGAs and DSPs · Additional architectural innovations to merge these 2 independent technologies
