Research abstract
The FIINDER system goal is a network-enabled FPGA-enhanced system for low-power image-intensified recognition. This effort addresses a novel research approach to using intensified images for face-recognition and provides for the design of a low-power, lightweight, reprogrammable, embedded recognition system. Phase I built on multiple patent-pending face-technologies, including FASST? and Random-Eyes? technologies and combined them with face-based Biotope? technologies. The results of the Phase I effort are conclusive: the proposed FIINDER approach is feasible; the new algorithms are extremely effective and that FPGA-based solutions can improve the speed and effective FOV of the system while maintaining low-power. The Phase II effort will engineer the remainder of the system components to build and test a complete TLR6 prototype with both the FPGA-enhanced FIINDER system and a long-range communication to a base station. The Phase II effort is divided into 5 main tasks, plus a collection of smaller optional tasks that address potential extensions including adjustable field of view, remote zoom, and integration with existing technologies/systems.
