Research abstract

This proposal will continue development of the Meyer Nutating Disk Engine, a novel engine concept capable of delivering twice the power density of a traditional two-stroke engine and up to four times the power density of a four-stroke engine. The overall objective of this effort will be to provide both the military and commercial worlds with an internal combustion engine that is compact, lightweight, powerful, smooth running and run on heavy fuel. The engine to be developed during Phase II is a 100-150 Hp Meyer Nutating Disk Engine ultimately capable of powering a variety of military vehicles, and provide excess energy to the war fighter. The engine will be a second generation Meyer Nutating Disk Engine. The first prototype, which is currently being tested during the Phase I effort, will lay the groundwork for the second-generation engine design, one that is fully integrated. The engine concept has been proven, and results from testing will be incorporated into the new design, thus bringing the engine to new levels of performance and advancing it to a targeted TRL of 5-6. Phase II efforts will include detailed engine design, zero-dimensional modeling and CFD analysis, prototype engine build and engine performance testing.
