Research abstract

Recent conflicts and world events have highlighted the need for one-hundred percent positive identification of intended targets before the launch of human or machine guided weapons. Recent advancements in numerous technology areas have empowered the consideration of placing aided target recognition (AiTR) capabilities on tactical airborne platforms. MVA proposes to investigate a hierarchical AiTR algorithm – including signal processing tradeoffs, synthetic template generation, and extensible databases and processing capabilities of tactical aircraft. Our innovative concept, tightly integrates the synthetic template database, AiTR algorithms and signal processing with the High-Range Resolution (HRR) mode of the radar sensor. Our approach included the development and integration of algorithms to provide extreme confidence detection and identification capability for time critical moving ground targets.
