Research abstract

The need for learning objects to be shared, reused, transformed, and distributed requires access control, user authentication, and identity management services within distributed learning environments (DLEs). To this end, in Phase I, we specified the overall architectural framework for user authentication and identified potential transitions, opportunities, and commercialization strategies. In Phase II, we intend to develop a functioning prototype of a multibiometrics user authentication system along with a scripting language to integrate our proposed authentication management and content protection infrastructure into distributed learning environments (DLEs), such as the Navy’s SCORM-compliant Integrated Learning Environment (ILE). We will identify a SCORM-compliant training package with access control and verification requirements to demonstrate out solution adaptability and implement security extensions to the training package for data access and user authentication.
