Research abstract

Today’s warfighter repeatedly relies on the effectiveness of battlefield computers and other processing devices to efficiently accomplish mission goals. In particular, the dismounted soldier is faced with the daunting challenge of carrying such a device on his/her person, without producing a detrimental affect on individual mobility or comfort. Although these kinds of body-worn processing systems exist, in many cases they are mission-dependant and can only be used for the expressed purpose in which they were designed. What is needed is a COTS-based system which provides an easy path for processing capability upgrades, protocol changes and application flexibility. Trident proposes to develop a modular, rugged, man-wearable system which is low-profile and body-conformal, provides the computational strength to perform a multitude of tasks, and provides an upgradeable platform which is capable of mission-specific configuration - the Integral Conformal Equipment Pack, or ICE Pack.
