Research abstract

Trion Coatings proposes to develop and demonstrate SAFE Chrome®, an innovative, environmentally friendly, and performance-enhanced trivalent chromium plating technology as a replacement for hexavalent chromium in small caliber barrel applications. SAFE Chrome® aims to provide superior corrosion resistance, thermal stability, and mechanical durability under extreme conditions typical of small caliber weapon systems. This project will leverage our proprietary ionic liquid technology and single barrel small caliber vessel electroplating system to achieve these outcomes without the environmental and health risks associated with hexavalent chromium coatings.
