Effective Character Restoration and Enhancement for Arabic Text Documents

Polar Rain proposes to design and develop fast and efficient character restoration and image enhancement algorithms and software for Arabic text document images. Our proposed approach brings innovative solution designed to work on degraded Arabic text document images combining non-language specific image enhancement methods with Arabic specific character restoration algorithm. Computation models used in algorithms takes advantage of Arabic characters shapes and appearance features while removing artifacts, marks general noise during enhancement process. Proposed software design allows seamless integration third party OCR products with set of application programming interfaces. We will evaluate and conduct experiments to measure feasibility and superiority of proposed solution over exiting image enhancement and character restoration algorithms using COTS OCR product as well as Polar Rain’s mobile OCR software.
