Research abstract

Datatek Applications, Inc. proposes to execute a Phase II SBIR effort to build upon our successful Phase I SBIR program on this same topic. This SBIR Phase II program will leverage the results of the Phase I study and proof-of-concept to produce a working prototype that facilitates the mobile operation of legacy Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) tactical devices in the emerging IP Version 6 (IPv6) environment. The US Army is planning to migrate its core network, hosts, devices and applications to IPv6 over the next several years. There will be a residual of devices, hosts and applications that will not be upgraded to IPv6 at the same time as the core network, and in fact some may never be upgraded. The Army is seeking tools to facilitate the transition, including mechanisms for extended interoperability with devices that cannot be upgraded to IPv6 and methods to extend the advantages of IPv6 and Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) to these IPv4-only legacy devices.
