Research abstract
Technest Holdings Inc. proposes in this SBIR II effort to develop and prototype a real-time system with a novel Motion Tracking Indicator (MTI) algorithm dubbed SmartMTI. Based on our Phase I proof of concept study, we believe that our algorithm/system will reliably detect, extract, and track the locations and movement history of multiple targets in real time within any imagery data (i.e., visible, near infrared, infrared, image intensified (I2), UHF ground-based radar, or any imagery yielding movement of multiple targets within a stationary or moving background Technest’s approach uses a variety of mathematical models in a unique design that considers the “state” of the object to improve tracking reliability. The innovation of the proposed algorithm is in the creation of a state-machine MTI framework that uses a combination of state-of-the-art motion detection and target tracking methods to create inter-object ‘awareness’. The SmartMTI design effort leverages Technest's expertise and experience in real-time surveillance system design for the Army’s AMCOM’s SCORPION or “Glide Bomb” program, NUWC’s CERBERUS program, BMDO’s missile seeker program, Air Force’s UAV auto-navigation and surveillance program, and DARPA’s Future Combat System (FCS) program.
