Research abstract

Based on our successful Phase I effort, Corvid Technologies is pleased to offer this proposal for the development of a first-principles numerical approach to modeling Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) response to unplanned thermal stimuli. We will implement the models identified in Phase I into our unified Lagrangian finite element solver Velodyne to solve the physics associated with cook-off in propellant materials as they are confined in SRM systems. Upon reaching the objectives of this proposal, our methodology will be used to predict the reaction of SRM systems to thermal stimuli to evaluate IM compliancy and provide insight to the performance of IM mitigation technology. This type of information will aid system designers and program managers make informed decisions what will reduce the cost of Missile Defense Agency programs and condense the schedule for deployment of SRMs within the Missile Defense System.
