Research abstract

Techno-Sciences, Inc. (TSi), in collaboration with ILC Dover, LP (ILC) and the US Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), proposes to develop an innovative adaptive munition technology featuring an Inflatable Wing Actuation System (IWAS. The IWAS wings provide the ability to affect the trajectory of the munition. This feature allows the user to control the munition, either passively (via a pre-programmed actuator schedule) or actively (via electromechanical actuators), to perform manueuvers beyond a simple ballistic trajectory. This aerodynamic control capability can be used to achieve range extension, or to engage a moving target. The IWAS technology will be systmatically evalued in Phase II with wind tunnel and live-fire tests in collaboration with the U.S. Army.
