Research abstract

Today’s extended enterprises and supply chains are becoming increasingly complex. As a result, managers of large projects and programs have to allocate a growing portion of their time and energy to supply chain management (SCM) issues in addition to normal organizational management functions. For military maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities, this becomes even more difficult as they try to transform themselves into Lean operations because 20%-60% of the work generated is actually discovered during the activity. Today’s approaches to enterprise resource planning (ERP), SCM, and material forecasting are simply not capable of handling a great deal of uncertainty or changing events. On this effort, viaSim proposes to develop an agent-based supply chain simulation tool using the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model as the foundation for the generic simulation agent model.
