Research abstract

Los Gatos Research proposes to develop novel multiplexed sensor system capable of real-time simultaneous measurements of several atmospheric gases onboard submarines with ppb-level sensitivity. These multi-species analyzers will be based on Off-Axis ICOS, a technology developed and commercialized at Los Gatos Research for over five years. Unlike conventional instrumentation based on gas chromatography or mass spectrometry, Los Gatos Research proposes to develop a novel multiplexed sensor system capable of real-time simultaneous measurements of several atmospheric gases onboard submarines with ppb-level sensitivity. These multi-species analyzers will be based on Off-Axis ICOS, a new laser absorption-based technology developed and commercialized at Los Gatos Research for over five years. Unlike conventional instrumentation based on Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gas chromatography or mass spectrometry, LGR's proposed Analyzers will routinely provide the sensitivity and specificity necessary for accurate measurements of many target gases in ambient air at several locations without user intervention or regular maintenance. Finally, the proposed instrumentation will be inexpensive to build, require minimal electrical power to operate, and fit into a standard instrument rack.
