Research abstract

In the Phase I effort Talley Defense Systems analytically showed the feasibility of several designs for controlled ejection of countermeasures. Each design reduced the acceleration spike, while maintaining the required exit velocity. The Phase II program will evaluate the acceptable designs, with Navy system inputs, to select a single concept through a trade study matrix. A data package including specifications, analysis and detailed drawings will be created for the selected configuration. Test units will be manufactured and separate components will be initially tested. Assembled gas generators will be tested to develop the controlled ejection system across countermeasure mass and launch depth environments. A shallow fresh water test program will be planned as the conclusion of the base Phase II program. Optional Phase II funding will be requested to test units in a shallow fresh-water condition with multiple counter measures.
