Research abstract

The development of a pulse compression network for solid-state high-voltage generators is proposed. Modern generators leverage advances in semiconductor technology to achieve fast rise times and short pulse durations that enable the rapid delivery of energy to the load. The performance characteristics of such systems can be further improved with an external pulse compression device that leverages propagation characteristics in nonlinear media to further compress pulses in time and provide peak power amplification. The proposed approach consists of numerical simulations followed by prototype fabrication and testing. The proposed pulser compression technology is anticipated to impact new plasma, particle beam and laser technologies, as well as  purification of wastes from thermal power, metallurgical, and chemical plants, water treatment, and sterilization of tools and products, in addition to DoD applications.
