Research abstract
The research described under this proposal is directed toward the development of advanced software technologies for accurate simulation of radar signatures of targets situated in natural clutter. The objectives of the proposed work are to: (1) develop a fast, first-principles radar signature simulator capable of generating coherent returns from virtually any terrain clutter environment; (2) allow coherent siting of user-selected targets in the clutter background, including effects such as path loss and obscuration; (3) give the user the ability to specify the layout of the scene, define seasonal and environmental factors, and include sensor parameters such as bandwidth, multiple-aperture sensor geometries and waveforms; (4) have all parameters available through an intuitive and easy-to-use user-interface; and (5) implement the signature simulation software in a form suitable for use in a distributed computing environment.
