Research abstract

The gimbal elevation ring, also made with AlBeMet 162, It will be manufactured from a Near Net Shape (NNS) Hipped block of material. The technical objectives of this portion of the Phase II are as follows: a. Provide structural analysis of the gimbal elevation ring and drawings revised to reflect wall thickness accounting for the change in material. b. Thermal, Structural, and Pointing & Stabilization analysis for the gimbal elevation ring. The Phase II team evaluated the concept of producing the Gimbal Elevation Ring using the AlBe Weld method and determined that due to the cost of tooling the project would exceed the $750K Additionally the associated risk of successfully producing a part of this complexity utilizing AlBeWeld with this method on a part with eight weld is very high. When full production commences MDA must be assured that the structural and thermal requirements for the two components are compatible at assembly and installation.
