Research abstract

Coherent Logix, Inc. (CLX) proposes to develop a Flexible Home-on-Jam (FHOJ) radio direction finding (RDF) system capable of identifying and simultaneously tracking multiple jamming sources to provide accurate targeting vectors. This tracking technology builds on our prior work in developing adaptive direction filters for GPS anti-jam. CLX is also developing a high-performance, extremely low-power SRAM-programmable digital signal processor chip based on patent-pending HyperX architecture, around which miniaturized FHOJ receivers could ultimately be built. The goal is a highly power-efficient, lightweight portable RDF system with the ability to precisely geolocate a very wide variety of current and future GPS jamming transmitters. Flexibility is assured by complete programmability of all signal processing. In Phase I, CLX will investigate signal processing codes and hardware to achieve (under various GPS jamming conditions) the accurate measurement of direction of arrival of interference RF energy. Specifically, CLX will investigate the use of space-time adaptive processing (STAP) and FFT methods for both narrow- and wide-band modulations. CLX will determine the requirements and system trade-offs for realistic GPS jamming environments, and will perform concept simulations for several antenna configurations and RF environments. In Phase II, CLX will design and build a demonstration system for testing.
