Research abstract

JRM Technologies and SAIC Demaco propose the Phase II development of an innovative global bi-static 3D object model “RF transfer function” for fast, high-fidelity RF signature prediction of ground targets in arbitrarily-complex background-clutter. Such compact model representations can then be combined quickly into complete RF systems for complex scenes to synthesize the coupled, composite RF signature accurately. In this fashion, the sensor analyst can rapidly perform reliable SAR, MTI or other RF mode simulations against arbitrary, complex tactical scenes on-the-fly, instead of through huge, pre-computed Xpatch runs valid for only one orientation. Specifically, this Phase II will further develop and implement JRM’s Phase I design of “Universal Scatter Center Sets (USCSs).” These new entities will define the RF response of an object from any arbitrary transmitter or receiver (bi-static) direction. New scatter center element representations will be developed that are parameterized functions of angles and material properties, rather than their current-art Xpatch scalar functional representations. In addition, the Phase II effort will develop compositing code that spatially combine USCSs into complete RF systems for synthesizing the exitant scene RF signature. The USCS modeling approach provides a true “leap ahead” as it is valid for all transmitter-receiver aspect angles and frequencies.
