Research abstract

IAI proposes to design a UAV payload utilizing Ultra Wideband RF spectrum as the prime-sensing element interfaced with high performance DSP processor like TI DM642 for processing images/video data. At the heart of our approach is using high frequency pulsed or continuous wave radar interfaced to a processing engine, which will be executing multiple synchronized threads. Each thread will be assigned for the on board sensors, which will be: • Monostatic radar which will be 10/100 Mb/s Ethernet controlled data will be acquired in the form of UDP packets • USB controlled/powered CCD camera with frame rate of 50 frames/sec • Avionics sensors present on the UAV, which would provide GPS, altitude and airspeed information through a serial protocol generated by a TI TMS320C6711 DSP. The proposed imaging radar can be easily designed around the Time Domain Corporation (TDC) P210 Ultra Wideband (UWB) Radio. IAI has over 10 years of experience in working with UWB Radar and developing SAR imaging algorithms.
