Research abstract
Generation of extended IR scenes without flicker is critical for evaluation of IR imagers for many DoD applications. The evaluation of critical performance parameters of algorithms, optics, and sensors rely on the ability to generate extended infrared sources that approximate realistic targets, countermeasures and backgrounds. K Lab corporation proposed and successfully demonstrated in phase I the concept of a novel IR emissive source that possesses the highly desirable features of high apparent temperature of 800¡ãC, rise and fall time of 1.5ms and <1ms, as well as the potential of low thermal crosstalk. During phase II of the program, K Lab proposes to develop fully functional 4x4 and 8x8 thin film integrated IR source arrays. The thin film IR source array can be easily extended into much larger arrays of 64x64, 128 x128, and 1024 x 1024 elements, with proper read-in integrated circuit (RIIC) in the near future.
