Research abstract

Syntonics proposes to investigate the feasibility of using its pixel-addressable reconfigurable conformal antenna (PARCA) invention. PARCA uses conductive pixels that can be turned “on” or “off” to rapidly reconfigure a patch array’s operating frequency(ies), aperture gain(s), beam pointing direction(s), and beam polarization(s). Multiple PARCA panels would provide all-azimuth coverage. PARCA would either replace or supplement the two mechanically steered horn antennas with six electronically steered antenna panels. While aperture gain is frequency dependent, maximum gains in excess of +40 dBi at 18 GHz and +15 dBi at 1 GHz are practical for antenna panels sized to fit the existing transmitters. Constant gain across a frequency band can be achieved, too.BENEFITS: PARCA technology is beneficial in military antenna applications than need a thin, flat-plate array that operates at high power levels with agility in frequency, gain, steering, and polarization.
