Research abstract

Increasingly, national and international organizations are relying on a standards-based simulation infrastructure to increase simulation interoperability and control modeling and simulation costs. As the capabilities of modern warfare have expanded, so have the complexities of simulating those capabilities. The various programs of MDA require reuse of interoperable simulations as it is too expensive to develop a new simulation for each new problem. While the HLA simulation framework facilitates the interoperability and reuse of simulations models, the high cost and labor intensive effort required to develop a HLA Federation Object Model (FOM) has constrained the development of FOMs, and thus confining the development of large repositories of reusable, interoperable models. Additionally, information sharing across complex organizational boundaries requires not only provision for integration without violating military security, but also mechanisms to ensure interoperability between different simulation federations. Trident Systems proposes to develop the Collaborative Simulation Development Environment (CSDE), a HLA based tool suite that facilitates the construction of interoperable simulation models which operate within and across Multi-Level Security (MLS) networks.
