Research abstract

It is an enormous challenge today to digest the overwhelming breadth and quantity of intelligence data in a timely manner. Often the window of opportunity to act on intelligence is short. Vital information and knowledge must be both extracted and shared in the shortest possible time. To prevent an enemy action, the enemy activities must be understood and communicated above the background noise level before it is too late. The need is to take raw data flows and rapidly turn them into critical awareness at the appropriate levels. Intelligence analysts need dramatically more productive tools to be effective. The right information needs to flow automatically in the right format to the right analysts. A similar need exists in the private sector to understand and disseminate market and competitive information. In some cases, the filtered and sorted information may be for internal consumption only. In other cases, the valuable information can be sold to customers or provided to them to improve their customer loyalty, as with customer alerts or newsletters. This project specifically includes the IOTA project as a key intelligence data source. During Phase I, we brought IOTA in house and have successfully interfaced with it as a data source.
