Research abstract

Ocean Systems Engineering Corporation (OSEC) continues its development of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) Neutralization and Detection (INDET) for detecting and neutralizing roadside bombs, munitions and other explosive devices. This Phase II project advances the identification and analysis of specific technologies, methods, and devices that easily mount on an Army lightweight vehicle. INDET Phase II designs and manufactures a prototype system developed from existing classified hardware components and software algorithms. The INDET prototype will provide substantial improvement in force protection for U.S. and Coalition ground vehicles. INDET implements a system that: (1) detects IEDs through an IR Spectrophotometry system and (2) neutralizes IEDs using Electromagnetic Detonation (EMD), Electronic Attack Jamming (EAJ), and Electronic Attack Intrusion (EAI) as described in the Phase I report.
