Research abstract
We propose to extend a MMOS (Massively Multiplayer Online Simulation) technology platform by implementing software interfaces and tools that enable rapid integration of 3rd party medical models. We will then demonstrate our work to medical first responders and administrators. Research will be conducted in the following areas: Enable Rapid Integration of Medical Models into MMOS Platform: We will build standardized interfaces and GUIs that facilitate model integration. Implement Two Medical Models for In-Hospital First Responder Training: We will demonstrate medical model integration by incorporating two models into the MMOS platform. Build Virtual Environment for Phase II Curriculum: We will fully develop the Stanford University Medical Center’s emergency department within the virtual world. This will be used to conduct user tests once the medical models have been integrated. Expand In-hospital Curriculum: We will expand the in-hospital curriculum to handle triage, diagnosis, and treatment activities that might follow the release of sarin gas or the detonation of radioactive dirty bomb. Conduct In-Hospital First Responder User Test: Once the medical models have been integrated, the curriculum defined, and the virtual environment built, we will conduct user tests to determine the value of virtual environments for training in-hospital first responders.
