Research abstract
The project proposed in this document intends to build on existing interventions and available knowledge on family functioning to develop an interactive Web-based relationship-enhancement intervention for military couples experiencing deployments. OSiF will incorporate features demonstrated to improve relationship functioning among couples experiencing military deployments, including the provision of preparatory educational material and various tools designed to enhance a range of coping skills and provide social support. Phase II will achieve the following technical objectives: (1) completion of 20 “courses” that will be implemented at the OSiF website; (2) completion of OSiF website copy deck, a website design and programming document, and the production of OSiF website; (3) usability testing of OSiF prototype; (4) implementation of a comprehensive and extensive Efficacy Study of the program comparing those receiving OSiF to a control group receiving standard educational information about deployment; (5) assess soldier and family member acceptance of and satisfaction with OSIF; and (6) assess base personnel acceptance of and satisfaction with OSiF.
