Research abstract
Green Liquid and Gas Technologies (GLGT) proposes to adapt its Auger Driven Pyrolyzer/Gasifier (ADPG), a unique thermo-chemical-mechanical system, to meet the goals of the DARPA MISER and Natick OFWEC programs. The patented ADPG is an indirectly heated gasifier (IHG) or pyrolyzer, in which the heat for gasification is supplied externally to the reactor. Compared to a partial combustion gasifier (PCG), IHGs greatly reduce the dilution of the output gas with nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor. ADPG’s pyrogas, with heating values 4-5 times that of PCG producer gas, can be converted to electricity in existing generating systems with minimal modifications and de-rating. Many gasification runs were performed in GLGTs Phase 1 project with residuals from Natick-furnished MREs and UGRs that achieved a desired steady gas pressure by simple control of the auger turn rate. For Phase II, GLGT proposes first to maximize the output of a single ADPG by optimizing reactor diameter, length, auger turn rate, temperature, and temperature distribution. After this GLGT will design, fabricate and test an optimized auger reactor, and later a multiple auger version. GLGT will partner with Gas Technology Institute, an R&D organization with extensive related expertise who will help in optimization, the design of control instrumentation and in commercialization. GLGT sees initial applications in the military with numerous civilian applications evolving as this efficient waste to energy conversion system is applied for distributed power generation.
