Research abstract
We develop highly capable multi-tier UAV aided ad hoc wireless networking architectures, protocols and algorithms. During the Phase II development phase, we will extend our algorithms for placement of UAVs and communications relay platforms to include multiple relay entities. We will extend our ad hoc wireless networking algorithms and protocols to integrate topology synthesis of the backbone network that includes the multiple UAVs. We will extend our topology synthesis algorithms and our QoS oriented robust routing flow control based algorithms to yield a routing mechanism that enables ad hoc wireless networks to support multimedia flows at high quality. We will extend our MBNP_simulator to develop a simulator prototype for multiple UAV-aided wireless network systems, through the optimal placement of UAV platforms, based on our new algorithms and methods. We will extend our recently developed MBNP_Sense simulation program prototype to provide for combined ad hoc wireless networking processes and schemes that include flows generated as result of sensor network detection events. During the Option phase, we will apply our algorithms, models and simulation mechanisms to a multitude of Navy scenarios, including intra battle group networks, battle space networks and communications relay aided swarm based ad hoc wireless networks.
