Research abstract

Bihrle Applied Research (Bihrle) has proposed the development of a System for Autonomous Vehicle Recovery (SAVeR) to enhance survivability of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). This system will be based on a robust strategy for detecting and suppressing out-of-control motions and implemented using modern control techniques. To accomplish this goal Bihrle will conduct research to assess candidate suppression strategies and control-law schemes. Work in Phase I will also identify and design tools and processes needed to implement and deploy the controller on a modern UAV system. Phase I option efforts will result in a detailed design of the SAVeR prototype to be implemented on a test platform and flown during Phase II. Work during the Phase I option will also yield an engineering simulation of the test platform and systems to be used for further research and development in Phase II.
