Research abstract

The primary objective of the SBIR program is the development of chemical and biological (CB) decontamination processes and procedures that can be used on aircraft parts or components. The decontamination methods developed and demonstrated under the SBIR program will be compatible with the operating environment and mission of the USAF Air Logistics Centers (ALCs), and be 100% effective without being harmful to existing aircraft materials and components, or having a detrimental effect on their subsequent operation, the ALC environment, personnel or facilities. METSS will accomplish the SBIR program objectives by using decontamination methods and materials based on modified vapor phase hydrogen peroxide technology, the efficacy of which was clearly demonstrated under the Phase I program. The Phase II program efforts will emphasize the development of a complete CB decontamination system capable addressing the program requirements, including the development of supporting practices, processes and procedures required to address CB decontamination needs at the ALC level in an expedient, effective and affordable manner. Additional emphasis will be placed on demonstrating the ability of the decontamination practices, materials, and equipment developed or demonstrated under the SBIR program to be utilized in existing or readily modified form to support additional CB threat scenarios, including large equipment (e.g., aircraft interior and exterior), and general purpose decontamination needs (e.g., large area site decontamination).
