Research abstract

Beltran proposes an innovative concept for a lightweight, low cost system for effective inlet air filtration or the US Navy's H60 Helicopter. The concetp combines both the inertial and electrostatic particle separation. Electrostatic agglomeration and precipitation is an efficient process for the collection of fine particles and requires low energy consumption for the operation and low pressure loss through the Inlet Filtration System. Our effort will concentrate on development of an electrostatic field in the air inlet, which will enhance the inertial separation of the commonly used Inlet Particle Separators. After mock-up test and evaluation, the most efficient approach will be combined into a final concept design and will be demonstrated.
