Research abstract

In Phase II of the SBIR program, LEEOAT Company will develop, design, simulate, fabricate and test the fieldable micromachined handheld high-resolution nondestructive imager prototype for the detection of hidden microcracks in avionic structures, especially underneath fasteners in the wings' spar. The innovation is based on LEEOAT Company's patented micromachining technique and high density interconnection expertise. We will finalize the handheld non-destructive inspection (NDI) imager prototype and test its performance, using calibrated samples of the actual avionic components. The interrogation process will be optimized to allow low cost maintenance of the aircrafts for the assurance of their safe operation.
