Research abstract

Triton Systems, Inc. (Triton), in partnership with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and other commercial partners have developed a Trauma Patient Tracking System (TPTS) that has the ability to track patients in both GPS and non-GPS environments. This system is designed to locate and track trauma patients during pre-hospital care, provide accurate positioning in both urban and rural environments, and communicate this information, in a timely manner, to both rescue and medical personnel. Our system incorporates innovative long range RF that communicates positioning information, robust and redundant Internet connectivity, and a comprehensive web-based tracking and analysis system. It allows the ability to track patients in real time while in range of emergency vehicle or hospitals, as well as it records and stores position information while outside of range, and then downloads data upon re-entry to the TPTS. In the Phase I, Triton successfully demonstrated a proof-of-concept TPTS. In Phase II we propose to deliver a TPTS system including wristwatch sized Patient Tags, GPS and non-GPS patient tracking, Internet-redundant Base Stations, and web-based tracking software.
