Research abstract

A major strategic asset required for the DD(X) Surface Ship is the In-Stride Mine Avoidance Sonar System (ISMA). Included in this system is the Dual Frequency Bow Array consisting of both mid and high frequency arrays located in separate upper (HF) and lower (MF) domes with distinct window materials. The currently proposed solution for the HF Array makes use of the existing Submarine Sail Array as a direct fit system into the upper bow dome. The overall objective of this Phase II effort is to develop a new, cost-effective, broadband, 1-3 piezocomposite HF array (transmit and receive), optimized for surface ship applications. The new HF array will consist of both a high power 1-3 piezocomposite projector array and a broadband 1-3 piezocomposite receive array.
