Research abstract

Identify an animal model that shows clinical signs of disease. With such a model, we can begin to test the vaccine and obtain at least preliminary evidence for its efficacy. This would provide the impetus for Phase II studies, in which the vaccine will be tested more rigorously. We envisage that Phase II trials will investigate specific immune responses to the vaccine itself, along with levels of protection when administered by different routes (parenteral vs mucosal), in different vectors, and using prime-boost methodologies.
