Research abstract

Currently, MKV incorporates an optical seeker with a fixed, narrow-angle telescope. A fast steering mirror is being developed to enable scanning over a wider field of view, as jitter control and zoom capability. A segmented design, comprising an array of micromirrors, minimizes weight, size, and response time. The Phase I effort met proposed milestones, including demonstration of tip-tilt motion of mirrors, maintenance of mirror flatness across a wide temperature range, and initial fabrication of high fill-factor arrays. Phase II will focus on scale-up from single mirror pixels to arrays, including yield and uniformity characterization, and establishment of a manufacturing process in conjunction with a commercial foundry.
