Research abstract

Impact Technologies, in collaboration with the Georgia Institute of Technology and support from various JSF system suppliers, propose to further develop and deploy an advanced, open-systems software application that provides a comprehensive resource for Verification and Validation (V&V) of prognostics and health management (PHM) technologies for the F-35 (JSF). The PHM V&V software environment will include the resources required to analyze sensor signal faults, fault detection and prediction algorithm capabilities, as well as reasoner technologies. Through the open-systems ability to access various data sources and PHM algorithms, the PHM application system will be capable of linking up the PHM algorithms results with specific PHM metrics developed to support maturation and validation over the system’s life cycle. A key aspect of the V&V approach is that it will be implemented as a web-based application so that all PHM system suppliers will have the capability to access, integrate, test and validate their models and PHM technologies. Specifically, the core innovations of this Phase II program include: 1) Developing an open-systems, web-based application to enable PHM module assessments with accepted V&V metrics; 2) Development of additional performance and effectiveness metrics for fault diagnosis, prognosis and reasoning; and 3) Links to Matlab/Simulink Tool Sets for performing validation of PHM capabilities using statistical techniques, intuitive visualization and animation, and 4.) Links to seeded fault, transitional failure and simulated fault data sets that can be used by PHM algorithm developers. By the end of the Phase II program, Impact will demonstrate the V&V environment and associated technologies through the use of the software by JSF subsystem suppliers.
