Research abstract

The fundamental objective of this Phase II proposal is to develop an economically viable and structurally reliable 40-foot tall, fiber-reinforced composite, unguyed tilt tower with counter-balanced raise/lower capability. IsoTruss’ proposal includes a bifurcated development approach. The bifurcated approach has been separated and termed Phase II Part A and Part B. Parts A and B of IsoTruss’ Phase II proposal are focused on uniquely different manufacturing methodologies. Parts A and B of IsoTruss’ Phase II proposal will be executed in parallel. Part A (WBS Code A) focuses on the manufacturing methodology developed and proven during Phase I. Part B (WBS Code B) focuses on a continuous, automated, machine controlled manufacturing methodology. Increased machine control in a composite manufacturing process typically leads to a more consistent, predictable, and reliable product. IsoTruss believes the Phase II Part B manufacturing methodology will also enable Phase III commercialization of this SBIR program.
