Research abstract

The primary objective of this proposal is to demonstrate the incorporation of improved fire protection solutions into TYCOR composite panels for Rigid Wall Relocatable Structures (RWRS) as well as Fixed Site Transportable Shelters (FSTS). WebCore proposes to investigate both currently available and emerging fire protection solutions used for composite structures and to determine the ability to incorporate fire protection solutions into low-cost composite manufacturing and assembly processes. Both integral (active) and passive fire protection solutions will be examined. WebCore will also compare assembly issues, manufacturing compatibility issues, and repair and maintenance issues of both passive and integral fire protection options. Flammability and fire testing will be accomplished on selected fire protection options as applied to composite sandwich panel construction.
